Local kitchen designer receives National Award Lenexa, Kansas Shawn McCune, CKD of the Kitchen Design Gallery learned on April 20th in Chicago that he received first place in the showroom display category of the 2006 National Kitchen and Bath Association Design Competition. The competition, sponsored by Sub-Zero, Dornbracht, and 20-20 Technologies Inc., received more than 460 entries in 11 categories, which included kitchen and bath, master suites/bathrooms, powder rooms, showrooms, other rooms and non residential spaces. The NKBA Design Competition provides national recognition to kitchen and bathroom professionals for their exceptional ability to design award-winning kitchens, bathrooms and other spaces. Over a three-day period, a panel of 14 NKBA Certified Designers judged each entry based on a safe, functional use of space, innovative design solutions, professional presentation and an overall aesthetic statement. McCune's showroom entry featured a unique, contemporary kitchen design featuring Studio Becker cabinetry, Cheng Concrete Tops highlighted by a custom glass tile waterfall which dramatically cascades down behind the wall directly behind the gas cook top. “I wanted to make a dramatic visual statement where two natural elements ---fire and water meet and compliment each other, rather than competing with each other for visual dominance” said McCune. McCune's Kitchen Design Gallery specializes in the design, planning and installation of complete kitchen environments and is also equipped to design, supply equipment and supervise the installation of built-in cabinetry for children's rooms, libraries, dens and family recreation rooms. McCune's newly remodeled showroom at, 13406 Santa Fe Trail in Old Town Lenexa enables customers to see a variety of full kitchen displays including state of the art appliances and accessories. The showroom is open Monday – Friday 9:00-5:30 and Saturday's 10:00-2:00 pm. In home, after hours consultations are also available. The National Kitchen & Bath Association is the largest trade association in nationally promoting the kitchen and bathroom industry. It aims to assist consumers who are in the market for a new kitchen or bathroom by providing top quality training to member firms in the area of business management, design and installation.
